Gateway Games: FCT Defeats Edo 30 -17 To Win Bronze Medal In Handball

Team FCT make team on Tuesday, defeated Team Edo by 30 – 17 to clinch the bronze medal in handball at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged ‘Gateway Games 2024.’

Speaking with newsmen after the team’s victory at the game which was decided at the Alake Sports Complex in Abeokuta, Head Coach of Team FCT, Ayo Joshua appreciated God for the victory, stressing that the players played to instructions, concentrated without losing focus.

“We told ourselves after losing yesterday (Monday), that we must make sure we go home with the bronze medal.

“We have been looking for medals for a very long time in handball in Abuja, and we thank God that this time around, we got it.

“We have a quality team but we don’t know what happened that we lost the semi final. Gold medal was our main target,” he said.

The coach noted that most of the players would still be together and prepare for the next festival coming up in Enugu State.

Captain of the Team, Atabo Abubakar also stated that the team performed well despite playing the host state at the semi final.

“We know our standard, we know our strength, we know what we came here for. No team is a push over,” Abubakar said.
