The Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN) is set to take centre stage in a new media collaboration with LEADERSHIP Newspapers, which aims to amplify its contributions to Nigeria’s infrastructure and development landscape.

In a meeting held recently at the association’s liaison office in Gwarinpa, Abuja, ACEN president Engr. Kam-Salem A. Bukar warmly welcomed LEADERSHIP’s initiative to showcase the attainments of the over five-decade-old body through a weekly spotlight titled “ACEN: Developing Nigeria Since 1971.”
Engr. Bukar expressed optimism about the media partnership, stating that the time has come for the association’s numerous interventions and professional contributions to be brought into national and international focus.

“We are glad LEADERSHIP is coming on board to help us amplify what we do. ACEN has always taken regulation, monitoring, and enforcement seriously. Our mission is built on integrity, sustainability, and quality service delivery,” he said.

He noted that the spotlight will help generate greater awareness among government agencies, the private sector, and the general public about the pivotal role consulting engineers play in shaping the built environment and advancing national development.

Also speaking, Engr. Ibrahim Buga of TDCL underscored the importance of telling the right story about engineering practice in

Nigeria. “If a bridge collapses today, people look to the engineer. But they must also know the value we bring to prevent such disasters. It is costly to hire a good engineer, but even costlier to manage the aftermath of engaging a bad one,” he stated.

Engr. Olumoh Sharafadeen of PureTech emphasised the need to project accurate narratives about engineering and engineers, stressing that society often embraces flawed perspectives because the right voices remain silent.

On his part, Mr Abdulmumin Balogun, director of special projects at LEADERSHIP Group Limited, assured the association of LEADERSHIP’s unwavering commitment to developmental reporting. He noted that the LEADERSHIP decision to spotlight ACEN is based on the association’s outstanding record and the urgent need to give more visibility to institutions that drive national progress.

“We believe in identifying with institutions that are critical to national development. ACEN represents a quiet force behind Nigeria’s structural growth, and it is time the nation hears more about their work,” Balogun said.

Other key figures present at the meeting included Engr. Shittu Rahman of Ramad Consultants Ltd and Mr Kayode Temitope, ACEN Abuja Liaison Officer.

The proposed weekly feature will explore ACEN’s legacy, ongoing initiatives, policy contributions, and strategic partnerships while highlighting prospects for Nigeria’s consulting engineering sector.

With a combined daily readership of over 80 million across print and digital platforms, LEADERSHIP reaffirms its role as a frontline media house committed to promoting excellence, innovation, and accountability in nation-building.
