The family of late gospel singer Olayemi Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has called for an investigation into his death and demanded a suspension of his planned burial until the circumstances surrounding his death are established.
The singer’s paternal family, represented by his uncle, Lawal Ademola, also known as Lawal Rauf, made the demand ahead of the planned burial on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Toluwanisings died on October 14, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Our correspondent gathered on Tuesday that disagreements had emerged between the singer’s paternal family and his widow over both the burial arrangements and the location of his final resting place.
While his father’s family wants him buried at his Ibadan residence or in his hometown of Ikirun, Osun State, his widow reportedly prefers a church-owned burial ground or a public cemetery, saying she is uncomfortable living in a house where her husband is buried.
A service of songs was scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, in Ibadan, despite the family’s demand that the interment be suspended pending an investigation.
In a statement, Rauf said members of the singer’s paternal family were opposed to the planned Wednesday burial and wanted the circumstances of his death thoroughly investigated.
“We don’t want him to be buried on Wednesday as they planned to. Everyone from his father’s family has agreed to this. We want people to help us in doing investigations into his death,” he said.
Rauf added that the family wanted the singer buried at his Ibadan residence, where his widow currently lives.
“Whenever we decide to bury him, we want him to be buried in his home in Ibadan, where his wife is currently living,” he said.
The singer’s uncle appealed to the government, Nigerians and religious leaders to support the family’s call for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
