Yobe State governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has said that the state government will further improve the health sector to make the state a medical tourism hub in Nigeria in the next few years.
The governor made the assertion during an exit meeting with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Represented by the secretary to the state government, Baba Malam Wali, he said the state government is investing in the health sector to compete with developed countries.
He added that all the deficiencies recommended by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) on the College of Medical Sciences of the Yobe State University and its Teaching Hospital would be improved.
According to him, the state government will liaise with the management to bring a lasting solution.
He commended the efforts of the acting vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Bukar Jamri, the management of the university and its Teaching Hospital for their passion and patriotism in securing accreditation for both the College of Medical Sciences and Teaching Hospital for housemanship.
In his remarks, the deputy registrar of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. Nnaemeka Nwakanma, said the Council is impressed with the infrastructural development in the state more especially for the College of Medical Sciences of the University and the University Teaching Hospital, adding that the institution deserves full accreditation by the Council.
He called on the state government to support the university so as to work on all the minor deficiencies the Council noted in order to bring a lasting solution to the institution.
Also speaking, the vice-chancellor of Yobe State University, Prof. Bukar Jamri, informed the council that Governor Mai Mala Buni, has a passion for both the education and health sectors, emphasising that the governor has never turned down the university’s request.
