Former presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has welcomed his recent endorsement by youths from the North Central zone, describing it as a timely call to national duty, while hinting at a potential formal declaration for the 2027 presidential election before the end of the year.

In a statement on his social media page on Monday, Hashim expressed gratitude to the youth coalition, stating that their endorsement reflects a growing national yearning for leadership that transcends regional politics and prioritises security, economic revitalisation, and inclusive governance.

“I am grateful to the young people of the North Central zone who have endorsed me to contest for the presidency in 2027 by the grace of God,” Hashim said.

“I am delighted that they recognise the urgent need for a president who would not simply be filling a regional quota, but someone who will secure all Nigerians, grow our economy, and make Nigeria livable for all who call it home.”

Olawepo-Hashim, a former student leader, democracy activist, and successful entrepreneur, noted that the economic and security challenges currently facing the nation require bold, principled, and competent leadership.

He says Nigeria’s current situation calls for “a strategic thinker with the resolve to unite the country and restore its lost glory.”

“By God’s grace, we shall be categorical on this request amongst many others for me to step forward and take up this assignment before the end of this year,” he added.

Few political analysts see the endorsement as a strategic shift, with many young Nigerians rallying around figures they believe can challenge the political status quo.

Hashim’s background as a bridge between civil society, business, and politics positions him as a unique contender in the evolving political landscape.

His previous presidential bid in 2019 brought to the fore his vision for a modern and economically strong Nigeria. He retained national relevance as a consistent voice for reform and youth inclusion.

The North Central youths’ endorsement, which was made public last week, cited Hashim’s integrity, developmental agenda, and history of service as reasons behind their unanimous decision.

They called on other regions to support a “truly Nigerian candidate” who understands the complexity of the nation’s challenges and can solve them.

As conversations around 2027 continue to gain momentum, Dr. Gbenga Hashim’s name is increasingly being mentioned in political circles as one to watch closely.

His potential entry into the race could signal a new chapter for Nigerian politics centred on competence, unity, and national renewal.
