The Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) has mapped out a collaborative strategy with the country’s military and the police to improve the security situation of the country, especially in the area of space technology.

Indications to this development emerged during NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme held in Abuja with the theme; “Innovation in Orbit: Empowering the next Generation of Space-Tech Entrepreneurs.”

The managing director and chief executive officer, Ms Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen  in her opening remarks, said, “In today’s digital economy, space is no longer a distant frontier. It is a domain of opportunity, anchoring everything from precision agriculture and environmental monitoring to disaster management, national security, fintech and connectivity.

“We are committed to building a vibrant space-tech economy that does not just serve us today but powers our collective aspirations for tomorrow.

“This is why the Accelerator Programme was born, to create a launchpad for Nigerian startups, engineers, data scientists and innovators who dare to dream beyond Earth’s boundaries.”

The Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa in his remarks stated that the collaboration between NIGCOMSAT and the security agencies is highly needed due to the current security challenges, adding that it has become incumbent on the country to fight insecurity by deploying space technology.
