In preparation for the 2026 appropriation bill, the Bauchi State government has organised a one-day intensive training session focused on budget processes, procedures, and implementation.

The event targeted commissioners, chief executives of parastatals, and permanent secretaries across the state, aiming to strengthen institutional capacity for more effective budget planning and execution.

Speaking at the training, the commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, Hajiya Amina Katagum, stressed the need for budget alignment with the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).

She said the training was designed to ensure participants understand the importance of staying within their respective budget envelopes while prioritising critical sectors.

“Revenue limitations demand that we make hard but necessary decisions. Education and health, for instance, will remain top priorities in the upcoming budget,” she added.

Secretary to the State Government,  Aminu Hammayo, applauded the ministry for the initiative.

He noted that such training would help curb budget mismanagement and promote a more disciplined and transparent fiscal approach in drafting the 2026 budget.

“It is a timely and commendable effort that aligns with Governor Bala Mohammed’s vision for accountability and fiscal prudence,” Hammayo said.

Participants engaged in robust discussions during the training, sharing insights and acknowledging the need for realistic budgeting in line with government priorities. They recognised that while some Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) may receive higher allocations due to strategic importance, all must adopt prudent spending practices that reflect the state’s overall development goals.
