The federal government is set to partner with the Jigawa State Government to increase sugar production in the country, as part of efforts to boost food security, job creation, and economic development.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, disclosed this when he received the governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, on a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Prof. Utsev said the collaboration aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises agricultural productivity, youth empowerment, and national economic transformation.
He described the proposed partnership as critical to improving the lives of Nigerians, especially in rural communities, and pledged to undertake a working visit to the sugar factory in Jigawa to assess the water supply situation and determine areas of possible federal intervention.

Earlier, Governor Namadi said his administration was seeking collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation to guarantee a consistent water supply to the state’s sugar factory.
He emphasised that steady production would not only boost the state’s economy but also contribute significantly to national development.
