Nigeria’s crude oil and condensate production rose to 1.70 million barrels per day in May 2026, surpassing the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries’ quota of 1.50 million barrels per day, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The NUPRC’s Crude and Condensate Report 2026, released by the commission on Thursday, showed that average daily production in May stood at 1.70 million barrels per day, made up of 1.53 million barrels per day of crude oil and 0.17 million barrels per day of condensate.
It also indicated that the month’s lowest combined output was 1.51 million barrels per day, while the peak reached 1.86 million barrels per day.

The May crude oil production, at 1.53mbpd, represented 102 per cent of Nigeria’s OPEC quota, indicating that output not only held steady but also surpassed the assigned target for the month.

Compared with January to April, May emerged as the strongest month in the period under review, reflecting a gradual upward trend after the February dip.

The report showed that total liquids production in January stood at 1,627,460 barrels per day. Output then declined to 1,483,940 barrels per day in February, before recovering to 1,546,100 barrels per day in March. Production climbed further in April to 1,663,430 barrels per day, setting the stage for the stronger May performance.
