The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern over the reported loss of more than 200 operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, describing the development as unacceptable.

The party stated this in a statement issued on Thursday by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, following remarks attributed to Governor Seyi Makinde regarding the number of operatives reportedly lost by the state security outfit.

Reacting to the development, the APC called on the state government to provide more details surrounding the revelation, saying such clarification would help strengthen public confidence and improve measures aimed at protecting security personnel and residents.

According to the party, the reported figure raises questions about the operational conditions and welfare arrangements within the Amotekun Corps.

The APC also urged the state government to improve collaboration between Amotekun and federal security agencies to enhance intelligence sharing and overall security operations.

The party criticised what it described as the deployment of operatives to guard private hotels, properties and business facilities allegedly linked to associates of government officials, insisting that the corps should be deployed strictly in line with its security mandate.

It further called for the recruitment of competent personnel and advocated regular training, retraining, improved welfare packages and the provision of adequate operational tools.

The APC maintained that involving security experts and implementing broader reforms would strengthen crime-fighting efforts and reduce risks faced by operatives in the discharge of their duties.

It added that improving welfare and ensuring proper deployment of personnel would help build a more effective security architecture in the state
