The House members commenting on the motion moved by Kehinde Joseph also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to address technical issues regarding opening of dams located in riverine areas resulting into flooding in about 31 states of the country and destruction of farmlands.

In his contribution, Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, who was represented by his deputy, Wasiu Eshinloku Sanni, said the “World Food Day” was relevant especially now to draw attention of the federal government on the need to protect farmers and allay fear of kidnapping of farmers.

He also said that the state governors had a role to play through the creation of a platform for dialogue between the herdsmen and the farmers as well as guide against banditry and kidnapping of farmers.

The chairman of the House Committee on Information and Security, Setonji David, in his contribution said the government should compensate victims of the recent flooding in some parts of the country.
