Insecurity: Anglican Church Urges N/A To Facilitate State, Community Police Creation

The Anglican Diocese of Enugu have called on the National Assembly to facilitate the creation of state and community police.

The church made the call in a communique over the weekend at the 2nd Session of the 19th Synod of the Diocese of Enugu (Anglican Communion) held at St. Paul’s Church, China Town, Enugu.
The communique was signed by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, the Rt. Rev’d Professor Samuel Ike, and other diocese officials.

The Synod stressed the need for the National Assembly to facilitate the creation of state and community police to improve security, prevent wanton destruction of lives and properties, and improve Nigeria’s ranking in the Global Terrorism Index.

The Synod noted the challenge of youth restiveness and the need to urgently take steps to stem the tide by prioritising the needs of the youths and making efforts to reduce the number of unemployed youths by ensuring that their voices are heard. It is

“The president should also ensure that existing highways are rehabilitated and also urgently provide safety nets like subsidies on health, education and food to cushion the effects of hardship on the populace.

“The Synod commends His Excellency, the governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, for the ambitious efforts of his administration in enhancing infrastructure, security, health and education among others,”the communique stated.
