A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former member of the House of Representatives, Barr. Umara Kumalia has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in the Northeast.

Kumalia who noted that the NEDC was established for the sole purpose of rebuilding Northeast, worried that the commission is not directing its energy to its mandate, but is rather dabbling into issues that does not matter to lives of the people.

The former lawmaker who said this yesterday during an interview with journalists in Maiduguri, criticised the donation of patrol vehicles to the Nigerian military by the NEDC when the military has already established process of acquiring vehicles and other logistics.

He however called for more funding for the commission to enable it tackle the numerous challenges the people of the Northeast region are facing.

“NEDC is an intervention commission responsible for rebuilding the Northeast.  I’m not satisfied about what NEDC is doing. Is the commission doing what they are supposed to do? Is the NEDC funded adequately? The commission requires more funding for the proper rebuilding of the Northeast,” Kumalia.

On 2023 elections in Borno, Hon Kumalia said poor governance in the state is what is causing negative reaction from the people of the state.

“The people don’t want the APC anymore; the party is not doing anything impactful to the people. The mammoth crowd that besieged the Shehu of Borno’s palace during the flag-off campaign of the PDP is enough reason to understand that the people of Borno are tired of the APC’s pattern of governance,” he further said.
