The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) through its International Spokesman, Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke, has said that it was delighted to announce that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State will be honoured with the prestigious Mayor of Peace Award as part of the United Nations International Cooperative Day celebrations.

The International Cooperative Day, celebrated annually, promotes the values of cooperation, mutual support, and collective action. This year’s theme highlights the importance of cooperative movements in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership and contributions to promoting peace and security in Ondo State and the South-Western region of Nigeria have been exemplary.

As Deputy Governor to the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, he played a key role in establishing the Amotekun security outfit, which has been instrumental in restoring peace and security to the region.

The association has further stressed its plan to showcase the SDG realities of the governor to the international community on September 25, 2025, at New York.

While giving account of the governor, Amb. Nweke said that Aiyedatiwa is the first governor in Nigeria to be bestowed with Mayor of Peace award. “This event and award will announce Ondo State to the world in terms of peace and security,” he stated.

The Amotekun security outfit has made significant strides in promoting peace and security in Ondo State and beyond. Its community-driven approach and synergy with other security agencies have earned it the trust and respect of the local population.

The award ceremony will take place this Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Dome Center, where World Peace President, Amb. Per Stafson, will present the award to Governor Aiyedatiwa.

As part of marking the Cooperative Day, the association has registered five eminent personalities of Ondo State origin to attend the forthcoming United Nations Food System Summit in Ethiopia on 27-29 July 2025.

Amb. Emmanuel said that Ondo State has been selected for hosting some major United Nations events from now to December 2025.

The event will be coordinated by IAWPA’s International Director, Amb. Chidi Ehiriedo.

IAWPA’s Mayor of Peace Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development. Governor Aiyedatiwa’s receipt of this award underscores his commitment to advancing peace and development in Ondo State and beyond.

“We commend the governor’s efforts and look forward to continued collaboration in promoting peace and sustainable development,” the statement concluded.
