The Senate Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu, has hailed the launch and inaugural flight of Enugu Air as a groundbreaking achievement that underscores Governor Peter Mbah’s visionary leadership and commitment to the socioeconomic transformation of Enugu State.
“On Monday, July 7, 2025, history was again made in our dear state of Enugu with the official launch and inaugural flight of Enugu Air, the second state-owned airline in the country after the Ibom Air of Akwa-Ibom state,” Senator Ngwu said in a statement on Tuesday.
“This is another revolutionary feat achieved by the government of His Excellency Peter Mbah towards opening up Enugu for business, generating employment, attracting investment, and putting the state on the global map of economic hubs.”
The lawmaker further highlighted the benefits of Enugu Air, stating that it would provide career paths for young people in aviation, logistics, tourism, and hospitality industries. “As His Excellency himself noted, one of the reasons for the establishment of Enugu Air was for young people in the state, who would now see real career paths in aviation, logistics, tourism, and hospitality industry.”
Enugu Air’s impact on the state’s economy and job creation is expected to be significant.
According to Senator Ngwu, “The legacy project aimed at building an entire ecosystem that will create over 20,000 jobs across BRT, 2,000 hybrid city taxis, airport operations, ride-hailing, and support services.”
The Senator representing Enugu West praised Governor Mbah’s leadership, saying, “Governor Mbah has indeed written his name in gold not only on this landmark achievement but other novel approaches towards development of Enugu state and returning to the hitherto derailed path of glory.”
With Enugu Air’s inaugural flight, Senator Ngwu believed that the state’s future looks bright. “It is quite commendable that the airline which will begin operations with a fleet of three Embraer jets from the E170 and E190 series, selected for their operational efficiency, passenger comfort, and suitability for regional routes will form a strategic triangular network connecting Enugu, Abuja, and Lagos with plans underway to expand services to Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, Kano, and other major cities across Nigeria and beyond.”
