Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hailed the Supreme Court judgment affirming the victory of Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo, in the September 2023 governorship election.

Wike urged the governor to remain focused, describing the victory as a renewed call to selfless service to the people of Edo State.

In a statement issued yesterday by his senior special assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the Minister said the Supreme Court’s decision was a final confirmation of the mandate freely given to Okpebholo by Edo voters.

“This victory is for the people of Edo State, who elected Governor Okpebholo. It is a call for greater commitment to the service of the people.

“I congratulate the governor and urge him to keep doing his best for the lifting of Edo State and its people,” he stated.

Wike also called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asuerime Ighodalo, to collaborate with Governor Okpebholo in advancing the state’s development.

“Now that a final answer has been provided as to the question of who won the governorship election, it behooves all opponents of the governor to, in the collective interest of Edo State, join hands with him,” he added.

The minister emphasised the need for unity, urging all the stakeholders to prioritise Edo’s progress above political differences.
