The Senator representing Kogi Central in the National Assembly, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and her supporters were conspicuously absent as Senator Tunde Ogbeha, on Monday, unveiled the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the official platform for coalition of opposition parties in Kogi State.
It was not immediately clear why the Kogi Central Senator and her supporters were absent, a source however said that those holding positions in some of the opposition parties, like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) avoided the gathering.
“As you can see, I’m a member of the main opposition PDP in the state and I’m here. But those who are holding political and party offices are the ones not here for reasons best known to them. He said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Senator Ogbeha who is the Kogi State Coordinator of the ADC, said the opposition members were in the state to unveil the party, but because of the death of the former President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, decided to do the unveiling in a low key.
The former Senator who represented Kogi West on the platform of the PDP and now member of the ADC noted that the former President did his best for the nation as president.
He said although ADC has been unveiled in a low-key in the state, they will soon kick-start activities of the party across the state.
Also speaking, Senator Dino Melaye said the low-key unveiling of the party was to honour Buhari who passed away in a London hospital on Sunday.
Melaye said the coalition was determined to change the situation in the country for good.
“As you can see, we are here in our numbers to flag-off the movement to liberate Nigeria and Nigerians from economic hardship. Despite the fact that we are launching the movement in a low key, because of the death of our former president, the turnout is very impressive,” he said
Former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Simon Achuba, while speaking on the sideline of the event, said once the activities of the party kick off, ADC will penetrate all parts of the state, assuring that the party was full ready for the 2027 general elections.
Among those present at the unveiling include former Chairman of the PDP in the state, Engr. Sam Uhuotu; Kogi State ADC Chairman Mr. Kingsley Oga, among others.
