Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has pledged his administration’s full support for Nigeria’s ongoing tax reforms during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja recently.

The visit, described as a strategic engagement, highlights Katsina’s commitment to deepening collaboration with federal institutions in areas such as digital innovation, voluntary tax compliance, grassroots sensitisation, and enforcement strategies aimed at improving internal revenue generation.
Governor Radda lauded Dr. Adedeji’s reform-oriented leadership at the FIRS, describing the agency as “the engine room of Nigeria’s economic growth.”

He emphasised the need for state governments to align with national priorities to build a more transparent and efficient tax system.

“We are committed to adopting progressive tax practices that not only boost our internal revenue but also enhance service delivery to the people of Katsina State,” Radda said. “Our administration sees taxation as a tool for development, not punishment, and we are ready to partner with the FIRS to ensure wider compliance through innovation and public engagement.”

In response, Dr. Adedeji commended the Governor’s proactive stance, noting that such partnerships are vital for sustainable fiscal growth.

He said the FIRS is open to working closely with states like Katsina to broaden the nation’s tax base in a way that supports inclusive development.

“Sub-national governments are critical stakeholders in Nigeria’s revenue architecture,” Adedeji said. “We welcome Katsina’s willingness to collaborate and will provide all necessary technical support to ensure the successful implementation of reform initiatives.”

Governor Radda was accompanied by the Accountant General of Katsina State, Alhaji Nura Tela. On the FIRS side, present at the meeting were Mr. Adetayo Koleosho, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, and Dr. Kabir Abba, Coordinating Director.
