Human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju has tasked President Bola Tinubu to take urgent steps to reform Nigeria’s health care system and build a world-class hospital in the country.

Adeyanju described absence of such health facility in the country as “a national emergency” and “a shame too much to bear.”

In a statement posted on his social media handle, Adeyanju urged President Tinubu to prioritise health sector development before the end of his tenure.

“Dear President Tinubu,” he wrote, “Fix Nigeria’s health care sector. Build a world-class hospital in Nigeria. This should be a national emergency. The shame is becoming too much to bear.”

Adeyanju, known for his vocal stance on governance and public accountability, emphasised that such a project is achievable if given necessary political will.

“This can be achieved before the end of your tenure. Just give approval and direct that it be funded,” he stated.

The activist’s remarks came at a time when concerns over the poor state of Nigeria’s health infrastructure have been highlighted by continued reliance of government officials on foreign medical trips, a practice that critics believed undermines confidence in local facilities.

Observers said Adeyanju’s call echoes the sentiments of many Nigerians who have repeatedly demanded investments in local health institutions, better equipment, and improved conditions for medical personnel.

The renewed call followed the passage of former President Muhammadu who died in a London hospital on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

Buhari was buried at a state funeral attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, his former deputy, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, among others, in his hometown, Daura, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
