The Kano/Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 420kg of pangolin scales within a suburb of Kano metropolis.

Briefing journalists on Thursday evening at the command’s headquarters in Kano, the area controller, Dalhatu Abubakar, said one person had been arrested for involvement in the illegal activity.

According to him, on July 16, 2025, around 7 p.m., a joint operation by the Command’s Special Wildlife Office, Intelligence Unit, and the Police Unit, through a combined expertise and vigilance, intercepted the scales.

He said the operation aimed to combat illicit international trade in wildlife and associated crimes while protecting valuable species, protecting natural resources and mitigating threats to biodiversity, ecological balance, and national security.

He also warned that the command would not tolerate any threat to wildlife or wildlife crime and would do all it could to disrupt criminal supply.

While appreciating the efforts of the officers involved in the operation, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale, and international partners, he further reinstated the command’s commitment to increasing surveillance and employing technological tools to combat wildlife crimes and protect endangered species for future generations.
