Buffalo kills Hunter In Osun

A hunting expedition by a brave hunter turned sour recently in Osun State when a wild buffalo killed a renowned hunter simply identified as Alfa Elefon in Lawoka community of Ile-Ife, Ife East local government area of the state.

It was gathered by LEADERSHIP that the untimely and gruesome death of the popular hunter sparked swift reactions from his fellow hunters in the community as they mobilised and went after the wild animal.

The retaliatory operation by the members of the Hunters Group of Nigeria (HGN), Ife chapter yielded result as they successfully tracked down the animal and killed it.

The tragic incident it was learnt occurred on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in a remote part of the forest where the deceased had gone on a hunting mission.

The hunter who became the hunted on the fateful day was said to have been attacked by the wild animal thereby sustaining severe injuries which led to his death despite frantic efforts to save him.

His remains were interred in the community the following day according to Islamic rites.

The news of his death spread rapidly across the community, eliciting shock and sorrow, particularly among members of the HGN, where the deceased was highly regarded.

Community sources revealed that the operation that led to the death of the buffalo in the hands of Hunters Group of Nigeria, led by the Osun State Commander, Chief Nureni Hammed was intense, as the hunters combed the forest for hours before eventually sighting the dangerous animal.

Besides the grief of loosing a darling colleague, the determination to get down the animal according to Chief Nureni Hammed was to forestall further threat to lives and property around the area.

The timely intervention and decisive action by the hunters have been widely commended by local residents, who say the move has restored calm and boosted confidence in the safety of the area.

The incident has reignited discussions on the risks faced by local hunters and the need for enhanced safety measures in forest expedition.
