Cholera Claims 13 Lives In Niger

Not fewer than thirteen (13) lives have been reported lost following cholera outbreak in six local government areas of Niger State from January 2025.

LEADERSHIP findings revealed that 236 persons were diagnosed during the outbreak of the disease from among whom 13 persons lost their lives.

Some of the affected persons were still receiving treatment in the hospitals.

The communities affected include Chanchaga, Bosso, Shiroro, Magama, Bida and Munya local government areas of the state.

Last week, the state Ministries of Secondary and Primary Healthcare embarked on multi-sectoral response to cholera in the state, where it was disclosed 26 lives were lost to the outbreak from January 2025 to date.

The Commissioner of Primary Healthcare, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Dangana confirmed the incident, but stated that the state government has swung into action by setting up a multi sectoral approach to halt the epidemic in the six local government areas.

He said a treatment and isolation centre has been set up in each of the affected local government areas to check the spread of cholera.

He added that the state has also embarked on aggressive sensitisation campaign, targeting religious bodies and in the entire eight Emirates of the state.
