President Bola Tinubu on Monday showered the victorious Super Falcons with some of the nation’s highest accolades and rewards, following their historic triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Hosting the record-breaking champions at the State House, Abuja, Tinubu conferred the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players of the team, alongside a life-changing package of three-bedroom apartments and a cash award of $100,000 each.
The President also extended his generosity to the technical crew, awarding each member $50,000.
He also praised the crew’s tactical brilliance in guiding the Falcons to an extraordinary comeback from two goals down to defeat Morocco 3-2 in Rabat — clinching a historic 10th continental title, dubbed #MissionX.
“The Super Falcons have lifted the spirit of our nation and proven, once again, that Nigeria is unstoppable when we stand united,” Tinubu said. “Your resilience, skill and teamwork have brought honour to our country and inspired a new generation of young Nigerians.”
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, joined in the ceremony.
