A group, Nasarawa State Advocacy for Peace and Patriotism, has faulted recent calls for the resignation of the state accountant-general, Musa Ahmed Mohammed (Baraden Nasarawa), over alleged 2027 gubernatorial ambition.

The group’s coordinator, Mr Abimiku Dangana-Solomon, stated this at a press conference yesterday in Lafia.

LEADERSHIP reports that a group, Nasarawa State Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance Group (NS-TA&G2), at a press conference on Sunday in Lafia, urged the accountant-general to exit his current position, citing Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022.

However, Mr. Dangana-Solomon described the call as politically-motivated, faulting the group for failing to cite relevant constitutional provisions barring public office holders like the accountant-general from participating in partisan politics.

He noted that the accountant general has a constitutional right to participate in active politics, citing section 40 of the 1999 constitution as amended.

According to him, there is no public record or private declaration from Mohammed indicating any intent to contest elective office.

“He remains focused on his duties and loyal to the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule,” he noted.
He said that due to his achievements and exceptional leadership traits, the public was rallying around him and calling on him to contest for the governorship seat to succeed Governor Abdullahi Sule.

“As a group, we also join our voices as people who desire continuity of good governance as exemplified by Gov Sule, that Accountant General, Ahmed – Mohammed should answer the clarion call from the people to contest for the governorship seat,” he said.

He pointed out that as a staunch supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the stand of the coordinator of the Nasarawa State Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance Group, Mr Laz’rus Salak, was suspect.

“The call for the resignation of the Accountant General, is politically motivated, because their arguments put forward lack verifiable references.

“And more so, the coordinator of the group Mr Laz’rus Salaki, given his affiliation with the opposition PDP and his role as an aide to the party’s gubernatorial candidate, we suspect his call is politically motivated,” he said.
