Three suspects have been apprehended over the kidnapping of Mr Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a staff of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State.
Eleyinmi, a University’s staff at the Faculty of Education was abducted at his house located along Akungba-Supare Akoko Road in Akungba-Akoko, last week.
LEADERSHIP learnt that the victim was whisked to an undisclosed location after they shot sporadically into the air for several minutes to scare away the people around.
Eleyinmi later regained his freedom after the payment of an undisclosed amount as ransom to his abductors.
However, in a viral video, the suspects were apprehended while sharing the money collected from Eleyinmi’s release in the forest around Ago Panu, a Village between Oba Akoko and Owo in the state.
Although local sources said the suspects were arrested by local hunters, spokesman of Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said operatives of the Command carried out the arrest.
“I can confirm to you that our operatives arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the kidnapping of 2 AAUA lecturers. The suspects are currently undergoing profiling and interrogation, Ayanlade said.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Police Command, CP Adebowale Lawal has directed the suspects and all exhibits recovered to be transferred to the anti-kidnapping squad for discreet and thorough investigation.
Ayanlade said further details will be communicated later.
