The House majority leader, Hon. Sale Hodi Jibir, disclosed this to journalists in Bauchi yesterday on the outcome of the inaugural meeting of the special committee set up for the exercise.

Jibir who represented the committee’s chairman and deputy speaker of the House, Hon. Jamilu Umaru Dahiru, said the hearing will take place across the three senatorial districts to gather inputs from citizens and stakeholders.

According to him, the process is designed to allow communities, leaders, and interested parties to voice their views and concerns on the proposed establishment of new local councils.

He added that the committee will announce the guidelines, criteria, and timelines for submitting memoranda during the hearings.

Jibir explained that under Nigerian law, local governments are established by state legislation, which requires the approval of two-thirds of lawmakers and the endorsement of the National Assembly, which can review and influence such actions.

He added that the committee will also visit all six Bauchi Emirates to brief traditional rulers on the development, stressing that transparency and public participation are central to the decision-making process.
