Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers have advanced to the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2025 FIBA Afrobasket Championship in Angola.
This achievement came after an exhilarating final group match against their Cameroonian counterparts, in which they emerged victorious with a score of 101-92 on Sunday.
In a gripping contest filled with tension, D’Tigers showcased their dominance early in the match.
They clinched the first quarter narrowly, finishing 28-27, before delivering a commanding performance in the second quarter, outscoring Cameroon 32-16.
The third quarter was equally impressive, with Nigeria securing a substantial 26-12 lead. However, the final quarter saw a dramatic shift as Cameroon rallied, winning 37-15, but it was not enough to overturn Nigeria’s earlier advantage.
This victory not only solidified Nigeria’s position in the tournament but also ensured their automatic qualification for the quarterfinals.
In contrast, Cameroon will now be required to navigate through the playoffs to secure a place in the last eight.
D’Tigers commenced their championship campaign with impressive flair, overcoming Madagascar with a convincing score of 77-59.
They followed this up with a remarkable 87-66 triumph over the defending champions, Tunisia, demonstrating both skill and composure in their play.
As the tournament progresses, the anticipation builds for D’Tigers’ next challenge in the knockout stages, where they will aim to continue their strong performance and contend for the coveted title.
