Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), organisers of the annual domestic league, and their sponsors, Zenith Bank PLC, are gearing up for the second phase of the 2025 Women’s Basketball League, scheduled to take place across both the Atlantic and Savannah conferences.
The second phase is set to run from 24th August to 1st September. Felix Awogu, a board member and head of Media at the NBBF, confirmed the federation’s commitment to the originally scheduled commencement date.
According to Awogu, everything is in place for a successful conclusion of the league, with the Atlantic Conference to be hosted at the Ilorin Township Stadium, while the Savannah Conference is set for Jos, Plateau State. In the first phase, held in Benin, defending champions Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Basketball team and First Bank performed well against competitors such as Dolphins, Bayelsa Blue Whales, and First Deep Waters.
In the Savannah Conference, Air Warriors, Royals Aces and Titans distinguished themselves in a group that also includes Customs, Plateau Rocks, Kada Angels, HAM Warriors and Nasarawa Amazons.
Zenith Bank has assured that it remains committed to the development of basketball in Nigeria. Dame Adaora Umeoji (OON), Group Managing Director and CEO of Zenith Bank, expressed pride in the league, which has consistently delivered results for Nigeria. “We look forward to the second phase as it will determine the finalists. We aim to enhance the tournament each year,” Umeoji stated.
The NBBF has yet to announce the dates for the 2025 finals, which will take place in Lagos, where the top eight teams from the two conferences will compete for the title.
