Adamawa State government has urged the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to build a reliable migration and displacement database for planning, scaling up livelihoods and stabilisation programmes for 200,000 IDPs.

Gov Ahmadu Fintiri made the request in Yola while addressing the IOM delegation as part of government efforts to strengthen collaboration in transitioning from humanitarian relief to long-term development solutions.

Speaking through his deputy, Professor Kaletapha Farauta,

The governor requested support for climate resilience and adaptation in vulnerable communities and training security and border officials in humane and orderly migration management to strengthen cross-border cooperation with Cameroon.

She explained that the government is looking forward to working more closely with IOM for the successful closure of the two official camps and repositioning of the Malkohi Multipurpose Centre.

“ It may interest you to know we have approved your request for the 150 hectares of land at Malkohi for Urban durable solution shelters.

“The Ministry of Reconstruction, Reintegration, and Rehabilitation and the Ministry of Land and Survey are finalising the process.”

She reaffirmed Adamawa State’s commitment to partnership with IOM, marking the beginning of a new chapter of deeper collaboration and greater impact for the people.

Earlier, the IOM global deputy director general for Operations, Mrs Ugochi Daniel, appreciated Adamawa State for being the first and one of the four states in Nigeria to develop and endorse a State Action Plan (SAP) on Durable Solutions, marking a pivotal shift from humanitarian aid to long-term recovery and resilience.

Daniel further lauded the government for the 7% financial commitment to support SAP and recommended integrating SAP priorities into the State Development Plan and the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) to ensure continuity, accountability, and long-term impact.

She equally expressed support for activating the durable solutions steering committee to drive multi-sectoral coordination and effectively align resources.

She added, “IOM appreciates the formal designation of SEMA and the Ministry of RRR as institutional leads for SAP implementation and data governance, with dedicated technical support.”
