Winners of the Ghari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono by-elections in Kano Ya’u Gwarmai and Ali Lawal Al-Hassan, have received certificates of return from the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
Gwarmai won the by-election under the APC with 31,472 votes, defeating the NNPP candidate, Muhammed Ali, who scored 27,931 votes; while Al-Hassan won under the NNPP with 16,198 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Abdullahi Muhammed, who had 5,347 votes.
Presenting the certificates yesterday, the state’s resident electoral commissioner, Ambassador Abdu Zango, congratulated them and wished the best.
In his remarks, Gwarmai said his victory signified God’s supreme power in returning him to represent his constituency.
He thanked the APC leadership for their support and assured his constituents of bringing development projects to the area with major focus on education and the provision of portable water among others.
Hon. Alhassan also promised to prioritise education for his constituents among other key projects to be executed soon.
