Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Adamu Mohammed, has called on communities to make the enrolment of their wards into schools a top priority.
He made the call at a one-day high-level engagement on the implementation of Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) held in Bauchi.

Alhaji Mohammed expressed concern over lapses in the teaching profession, lamenting that some teachers in the system are unqualified to handle learners at any stage of their education.
He urged the UNICEF-assisted TaRL project to broaden its scope to achieve its objectives effectively.
On her part, UNICEF’s Chief of Field Office, Bauchi, Mrs Nuzat Rafiq, described TaRL as one of the most effective education strategies globally.

She emphasised that everyone in a community bears responsibility for ensuring that every child has access to school, stressing that TaRL strengthens states by involving all stakeholders.

In their joint presentation, Dr Goni Shetima, a TaRL master trainer, and Malam Abdulrahman Ibrahim Ado, UNICEF education specialist, explained that the initiative was first piloted in Alkaleri local government area.

According to them, it began with 190 schools, 10,865 pupils and 290 government teachers.
Also, the zonal director of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), represented by Abdulsalam Abubakar, reaffirmed UBEC’s commitment to working with stakeholders to promote education across the state.
