Kwara Govt Promises Justice Against Killers Of Mentally Ill Woman

The  Kwara State government says it is working with law enforcement agencies to bring the killers of a woman mistaken for a kidnapper to book.

A mob had on Thursday in Ipata market area of Ilorin, the state capital, beaten  a woman later identified by the police as a destitute, to stupor following suspicion that she was a kidnapper.

She later died the same day at the General Hospital, Ilorin from the injuries sustained during the attack.

The  state government made its intention to bring the perpetrators to book in a statement issued by the commissioner for social development, Dr Mariam Nnfatima Imam.

The commissioner warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands, urging them to always report suspected individuals to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.

She  emphasised that the state government was committed to protect the rights of every resident and would not tolerate any act of rascality and illegality capable of threatening the existing peace and harmony across the state.

She  commiserated with the family of the victim,

And urged residents to support the government by providing necessary information to security agencies in order to surmount the security challenges in some parts of the state.

LEADERSHIP recalls that the family of the victim had on Friday demanded justice for her.

The family claimed that the deceased had been battling a severe mental illness for decades
