6 Die, 19 Rescued, 3 Missing In Fresh Sokoto Boat Mishap

Another tragic boat mishap has occurred in Garin-Faji Village of Sabon-Birni local government area of Sokoto state, on 21st August, 2025, at about 5:30 am.

A source who disclosed this to our correspondent said the accident resulted in the death of six persons, while nineteen survivors were rescued and three individuals were missing.

In order to confirm the number of casualties, the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) led a joint assessment mission with officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto Operations Office, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), and the Red Cross to the affected community.

During the visit, the delegation held a fact-finding meeting with community leaders and families of the victims.

The assessment team was led by the Head of NEMA Sokoto Operations Office, Alhaji Aliyu Shehu Kafin-Dangi; Honourable Aminu Liman Bodinga, special adviser to Sokoto SEMA who was represented by the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Mustapha Umar and Engr. Muhammad Bello Bala of NIWA.
