Nigerian young sensation Adamu Aliyu is making a name for himself in the football world with his impressive performances in Latvian football. The 23-year-old winger, who recently joined the second-division side JFK Ventspils from a team in Finland, has quickly adapted to the demands of Latvian football, playing a pivotal role in a 4-1 league victory over Tukums 2000 FC last Friday, just his second match for the club. Aliyu contributed to the resounding win by setting up one goal and earning a penalty.

In a WhatsApp conversation with LEADERSHIP Sports from far-off Latvia, Aliyu expressed his commitment to giving his best in every game and helping the club secure promotion to the Latvian Higher League.

“I believe I can contribute to the team’s success,” Aliyu declared. “Football is a team sport, and my focus is to give my best in every game, every training session, and support my teammates to help the club achieve its promotion target. I am confident that with hard work, discipline, and unity, we can make it happen.”

JFK Ventspils currently sit fourth in the Latvian Second Division League table with 34 points, five points adrift of league leaders Riga Mariners FC, who have 39 points, with 10 matches remaining in the current season.

With ambitions set on greater achievements, Aliyu, who hails from Northern Nigeria, has clear goals: to develop into a more complete player, compete in one of the major leagues, and earn a call-up to Nigeria’s national team.

“Hopefully, in the next two years, I want to see myself evolving into a more complete player, gaining valuable experience and playing at the highest level. My dream is to compete in the biggest leagues and represent my country at the international level; inshallah, it will happen,” he said.

Further speaking about his inspirations, Aliyu named Ahmed Musa, Daniel Amokachi, Victor Osimhen, and Kelechi Iheanacho as his favourite Nigerian players. “There are several Nigerian players, both past and present, whom I greatly admire. Players like Ahmed Musa, Daniel Amokachi, Victor Osimhen, and Kelechi Iheanacho inspire me with their fighting spirit and determination to make a significant impact in football, especially for us Nigerians who are striving for our dreams. I hope to reach the heights they have achieved one day.”
