A Brazilian billionaire has reportedly left his entire fortune, valued at approximately £846 million ($1 billion) to football superstar, Neymar Jr.

According to local outlet RIC, the unnamed businessman, who passed away in 2023, named Neymar as the sole heir to his vast estate, despite never having met the footballer.

The will, formalised on June 12, at a notary office in Porto Alegre, Brazil, was authenticated in the presence of two witnesses.

According to local media, the billionaire chose Neymar due to his admiration for the player’s strong family bonds, particularly his relationship with his father, Neymar Sr., which reminded him of his own late father.

Neymar, 33, has not publicly commented on the reports, but friends close to the player said he intends to honour the billionaire’s memory through charitable initiatives and investments in Brazilian youth sports.

The footballer recently renewed his contract with Santos, his boyhood club, and is expected to feature for Brazil’s national team squad at the 2026 World Cup.

The inheritance was subject to clearance from Brazilian courts, which must verify the will and determine if Neymar can legally inherit the vast fortune.

The billionaire’s family has already contested the will, sparking a potential landmark legal battle over testamentary freedom versus familial obligation.

If approved, the inheritance would rank among the most significant wealth transfers from a private individual to a sports personality in history.

Neymar’s future plans for the fortune were eagerly anticipated, with many speculating he will use it to further his philanthropic efforts and solidify his legacy in Brazilian football.
