A circular by the Federal Ministry of Environment’s National Flood Early Warning Centre (FEW CENTER), signed by the director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, states that five southern states and nine northern states should be on the lookout for possible flood disasters.

In the circular he issued in Abuja yesterday, Bokani called on relevant stakeholders, state government representatives, to be on alert to mitigate the impact of any possible disaster.

He urged them to always provide feedback on the situational report to the FEW CENTER.

He stated that a flood disaster was predicted following the locations and environs of those towns, adding that they are likely to witness heavy rainfall between September 4 and September 8, 2025, which may result in flooding.

The circular indicated the states under red alert as Ebonyi, Cross Rivers, Kano, Zamfara, Taraba and Abia State.
