Fiscal, Financial Regulators Meet On Nigeria’s Digital Economy

The Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN) has announced that top regulators and bankers will headline its 2025 Annual Conference, with discussions focused on boosting Nigeria’s digital economy.

The event, now in its 35th edition, with the theme: “Bracing for the Digital Economy in Nigeria: Taxation, Banking and Finance”, will have the executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, deliver the lead paper as guest speaker,

Adedeji is expected to outline strategies for leveraging technology to strengthen tax administration and improve government revenues.

Also billed to speak are the group managing director of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Dr. Oliver Alawuba, and the managing director of Moniepoint Microfinance Bank Limited, Babatunde Olofin, who will present keynote addresses on repositioning banks and fintechs for a digital-first economy.

 

Panellists will include representatives from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), NIBSS, NAICOM, AMCON, Dangote Group, PalmPay, and the Nigeria Customs Service, alongside academic input from Dr. Yinka David-West of Lagos Business School.

According to FICAN president Chima Titus Nwokoji, the conference is designed to deepen the capacity of financial journalists while serving as an agenda-setting forum for policymakers, regulators, and operators in the financial sector.

 

“This year’s edition is particularly significant as it coincides with our 35th anniversary,” the association stated. “The platform will provide critical ideas and solutions to help Nigeria navigate the complexities of a digital economy.”

 

Over the years, FICAN’s annual conference has grown into a major policy forum, drawing more than 150 financial journalists across print, broadcast and online media, alongside key stakeholders in taxation, banking, and finance.
