Omooba Dotun Babayemi, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has contended that the party’s various legal steps to address the lingering local government crisis have prevented the state from being plunged into chaos.

Babayemi, who explained that the steps showed the APC as a responsible and law-abiding party, stressed that resorting to lawsuits had prevented the destruction of property, bloodshed and loss of lives in the state.

He lauded the party’s leadership in the state for taking legal action to resolve the logjam surrounding the party’s elected local government chairmen and councillors’ resumption of office.

Also, Babayemi commended the APC local government chairmen and other elected officials of the councils for their perseverance and for allowing peace to reign in the state by not taking the law into their hands.

In a release from his media office, the governorship hopeful said the APC leaders’ intervention, coupled with the calmness and understanding of the council chairmen and councillors, has prevented the state from being confused.

“The legal intervention at every point in time by the APC leaders and stakeholders since the local government problems started this year in Osun State has shown the world that the APC is a party of peace and law-abiding. Were it not so, our dear state would have by now been thrown into a state of lawlessness,” he maintained

The notable governorship aspirant pointed out that the autonomy granted to the country’s local governments, which formed the basis of the current face-off, was not the creation of anybody in the state but rather that of the nation through the Supreme Court, the apex court of the land.

Babayemi added that if the principle of the three tiers of government were followed to the letter in the country, grassroots development would rapidly occur.
