Kwara State government plans to recruit 2,600 security guards under the Nigerian Forest Guards as part of measures to beef up security and ward off criminal elements in the state.

The senior special assistant on Security, Alhaji Muyideen Aliyu, announced this yesterday during a sensitisation programme on security and voter ‘s registration organised by the state’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress(APC), held in Ilorin, the state capital.

Aliyu added that the government has implemented various measures to check security challenges and restore peace in the affected parts of the state.

He said plans are in advance to recruit and equip the forest guards, who will work in synergy with the security operatives to ward off crimes in the hinterlands.

Also speaking, the commissioner for Works, Abdulquwwiy Olododo, highlighted the administration’s scorecards on road infrastructure in the last two years and refuted the claim in some quarters that most of the road projects were awarded to non-indigenes.

He said 70 percent of road projects executed so far by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration were awarded to local contractors.

Earlier, the state APC chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, had said that voters’ registration is not just a routine civic duty for the people of Kwara but a foundation upon which to consolidate the resounding winning streak of the party in the state and across Nigeria.

“As APC faithful, your mobilisation for voter registration will amplify the gains of our administration, ensuring our victory in 2027. Let us go forth, register voters, and secure a brighter future,” he said.

Fagbemi said the party’s dominance is no accident but stems from a proven track record of transformative governance under Governor AbdulRazaq and President Bola Tinubu.

“We have delivered impressive strides in infrastructural development, human capital empowerment, rural transformation, while laying strong foundations for the future through massive investments in education, health care, agriculture, commerce, digital economy, tourism, creative industry, justice system, and social protection programmes.

“Both leaders have exemplified unparalleled statesmanship in managing public resources with prudence and prioritizing the welfare of our citizens,” Fagbemi added.
