UNILAG Don Tackles Firms For Opting To Fund BBNaija Show Over Research

A Professor of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Chris Obisi, has decried the funding of a reality TV show instead of research in Nigeria’s higher institutions, urging corporate organisations to step in and provide support.

Obisi, who lectures at the University of Lagos, spoke on Channels Television’s breakfast show, ‘Sunrise Daily’ on Tuesday.

He lamented that while some companies readily sponsor entertainment programmes like Big Brother Naija, they show little interest in funding universities and intellectual research.

“There should be more synergy between research, research outcomes, industry, and the university so that industry can be funding universities and research outcomes, which some companies are not doing.

“It’s a shame. I don’t want to sound depressed. How can a company be sponsoring Big Brother but cannot fund research? How can a company be playing to the gallery but cannot fund research?
