Zamfara Governor Names Executive Secretaries, Reappoints ZACADEP Coordinator

Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the appointment of three qualified citizens to head two key state government agencies and oversee a major agricultural development project, in a move aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms in public health, agriculture, livestock development, and community-based interventions in Zamfara State.

Announcing the approvals, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, said the appointments are designed to enhance service delivery and deepen institutional efficiency across critical sectors of the state economy.

A statement signed by Suleman Ahmad Tudu, Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, confirmed the appointments and stated that they take immediate effect.

According to the statement, Dr. Muhammad Habibu Yelwa, has been appointed Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Substance Abuse and Control Agency, while Dr. Usman Ismaila Gusau is the new Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Livestock Agency.

The statement also noted that Governor Lawal reappointed Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed Nakwada as State Project Coordinator of the Zamfara State Agricultural and Community Development Project (ZACADEP).

It added that Dr. Yelwa is a seasoned medical practitioner and administrator with extensive experience in health, social welfare, and agricultural policy, having served in various capacities, including Permanent Secretary roles across different ministries where he contributed to institutional reforms.

Dr. Gusau, a veterinary medicine specialist and public health expert, brings over 25 years of experience in veterinary services, epidemiology, livestock health management, and public sector administration.

Alhaji Nakwada is described as an experienced agricultural development expert with decades of engagement in agricultural extension services, project management, IFAD-supported programmes, and community development initiatives. He currently serves as State Project Coordinator under the ISDB-backed ZACADEP programme.

Governor Lawal, according to the statement, urged the appointees to deploy their expertise, administrative experience, and sector-specific knowledge to drive impactful development in line with his administration’s Rescue Agenda.
