Renowned global peace promoters have said it will study all the manifestoes of political parties ahead of the forthcoming general elections in the country with a view to ascertaining their compliance to the promotion of peace and tolerance.
The association which has a Special Consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council ECOSOC since 2019 and has been at the forefront of promoting global and regional peace said it’s decision is imperative due to the reported cases of attacks against rival political parties in the country.
In a press statement signed by it’s international spokesman Amb. Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke said it is important for peace to reign before during and after the 2023 general elections.
“The peace, stability and unity of the country after the general elections is vital for the stability of the West African sub region hence, it is important that political parties state their commitments to this vital but neglected part in writing their manifestoes”
The association said it will soon launch itsTolerance Dashboard and recruit competent youths as Tolerance Champions with a bid to achieving it’s aim.
Recall that there have been reported cases of attacks against members of rival political groups fueling tensions in the states where such incidents occured developments which the International Association of World Peace Advocates said is worrisome and sends wrong signals capable of threatening the peaceful conduct of the elections.
It called on the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to urge political parties to commit to peace and tolerance as the elections draw close
