Thousands of mourners gathered in Kano yesterday for the third-day prayer (Fidau) for the late Sarkin Gabas and District Head of Kabo, Alhaji Idris Adamu Dankabo, who died last Thursday in a car accident.
The prayer session, led by Islamic cleric Malam Umar Ali alongside other scholars, was held at the Dankabo family residence, home of the late patriarch Alhaji Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo.
Verses from the Holy Qur’an were recited for the late district head, his late father, and mother.

Prominent dignitaries were in attendance, including former Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke; Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo; Presidential aide Abdul’Aziz Abdul’Aziz; and former Governor of Kano, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Others included Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, and former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Kabiru Alasan Rurum.

Idris Dankabo, aged 48, passed away in a road accident in Kano metropolis. His funeral prayer took place on Friday at the Emir’s Palace in Kofar Kudu, led by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, and was attended by thousands.

The late Dankabo was the eldest son of Alhaji Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo, the Jarma of Kano and founder of Kabo Air, established in 1980. It once operated a fleet of five Boeing 747 jumbo jets, making it Africa’s largest privately-owned long-haul airline at its peak then.
