Again, Gunmen Kidnap Traditional Ruler, 2 Women In Plateau Community

The District Head of Birbyang, Alh Zubairu Garba, and two other women were on Sunday night kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Kanam local government area of Plateau state.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the gunmen stormed the community, shooting sporadically before abducting the wife of the district head who later escaped from her abductors.

The latest incident occurred a week after the Ward Head of Shuwaka community in Kyaram District of Kanam local government area of the state was also kidnapped and subsequently killed.

The Chairman and Secretary of Kanam Development Association (KADA), Shehu Kanam and Barr Garba Aliyu, in a joint statement, confirmed the latest incident to journalists in Jos, the state capital.

They said the kidnappers attacked the community around 1am and whisked the traditional ruler away to an unknown destination.

KADA further condemned the incident and urged security agencies to rescue the victims and restore peace in the area.

The association called on security agencies to address security threats in the region.

Our correspondent reports that kidnapping and banditry have become widespread in the area, with many reportedly abducted for ransom while the unlucky others were killed.

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alabo Alfred was yet to respond to an inquiry by our correspondent as at the time of filing this report.
