Federal Capital Territory (FCT) children, in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), have embarked on cleaning the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp situated in the Sharing Prosperity School, Kuchingoro, and its environs.
The team leader, Ashezi Akwashiki, founder of Book Buddies, who led children between the ages of 10 and 16, including mothers, on the exercise, said 125 kids, 24 mothers and volunteers did the cleaning.
Akwashiki said the exercise aims to ensure that the kids in the IDP camp school are in a sanitised and clean environment, habitable enough for school children.
While emphasising that the children at the IDP camp, like others, need maximum attention, she added that for maximum concentration on their studies, they need a cosy environment, which she said is the reason they mobilised for the clean-up.
Ashezi, an eleven-year-old author with a deep passion for the underprivileged, especially those in IDP camps, mobilised some pupils, teachers, mothers, volunteers and friends from ICS School for the exercise.
