A deadly robbery gang made up of over 30 daredevil young men has killed a Senior police Officer and a Vigilante Member as they terrorised residents of Suleja in Suleja local government area of Niger state in two attacks.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the gang killed the senior police officer around Sandako Rafin Shayin on Monday and a member of the Vigilante around the APC quarters stretching to the Kwamba area on Tuesday night.
Sources in the area who prefer anonymity told our correspondent that the armed robbery gang also dispossessed one of the police officers guarding a very high-profile government official living in the quarters of his AK-47 gun.
It was learnt that they shot randomly to scare residents, especially around Rafin Shayin, on Tuesday night and killed the police officer in the process.
Residents of Suleja who spoke on condition of anonymity disclosed that the attacks were now becoming daily affairs in the area considered to be the commercial nerve centre of Niger state.
Apparently confirming the incident to LEADERSHIP, the Niger police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Wasiu Abiodun, said, “In response to the above incidents, the Police Command has deployed more tactical teams to Suleja Area and these tactical teams are undertaking both operational and investigative activities”.
He said that aggressive efforts were being intensified to ensure that perpetrators of the incidents are arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
The PPRO assured that further development would be made public as the investigation progressed.
Attempts to get the Chairman of the Suleja local government, Isyaku Bawa Naibi, were unsuccessful. Still, a source hinted that the chairman and some security chiefs in the area had met to find lasting solutions to the daily attacks.
