Oil Workers’ Strike: No Disruption Of Petrol Sales, Commercial Activities In Anambra

The nationwide strike embarked upon by the PENGASSAN had no effect in Anambra State as normal sale of petroleum products  went unhindred across the state.

Also, normal business and social activities were observed in all parts of the state, especially in the major cities of Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia and, Ihiala.

LEADERSHIP findings showed that petrol pump prices remained between N900 and N890 per litre at different filling stations as had been the situation since more than two months now.

Mr. Ifeanyi Okoye, a commercial shuttle bus driver in Awka told LEADERSHIP that petrol was available in all the filling stations.

“Our transport fare is still the same N200 from Aroma to UNIZIK termsite; N300 to Amawbia by-pass because we are still buying petrol at the normal price. There is no scarcity of petrol”, he told LEADERSHIP.

Manager of a transport company plying Awka – Onitsha through the Awka – Onitsha Express, Mr. Augustine Nwankwo said that they did not feel any sign of PENGASSAN strike saying that there was petrol everywhere in Awka and Onitsha.

Other people contacted in Nnewi and Ekwulobia confirmed that normal business activities were going on and that there was no scarcity of petrol or increase in the prices in their areas.

Mr Igwebuike Okoli said, “We don’t know anything about the PENGASSAN strike here in Nnewi. Business activities are going on here without any problem”, he said.
