Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has successfully intervened in the labour crisis that recently paralysed activities at Emohua local government area of the State.

The crisis erupted after some workers were denied their August salaries while others had their appointments terminated, prompting the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to declare an indefinite strike action.

Fubara convened a closed-door meeting on Tuesday with key stakeholders at the Government House, Port Harcourt, with Emohua local government council chairman, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, State chairman of NULGE, Comrade Clifford Paul, and the chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Israel Amadi, in attendance.

Following the meeting, Comrade Paul announced the suspension of the strike, assuring members that their concerns would be addressed.

“We have resolved. His Excellency has directed that this matter will be handled harmoniously. On behalf of the state administrative council of NULGE, I am calling on all branch chairmen and officers to end the strike,” Paul said.

On his part, Amadi described the discussions as productive, thanking the governor for stepping in.

He said: “It was a very fruitful deliberation. The governor has given clear directives, and we are confident that the resolutions will be implemented.”

Also speaking, chairman of Emohua LGA, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, also lauded Governor Fubara’s role, stressing that transparency was at the heart of the intervention.

Lloyd said: “I thank God for His intervention and also the governor for stepping in. It is not personal. We just want transparency in the system, and the governor has made that clear.”
