Sokoto Govt Disburses N293m, Food Items To Banditry Victims

The Sokoto State government has disbursed a total of N293 million and distributed 1,540 bags of rice, millet, maize, and guinea corn to victims of bandit attacks and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Isa and Sabon Birni local government areas.

According to a press statement issued by Abubakar Bawa, director-general of media and publicity at the Government House, Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced the disbursement during a condolence visit to the affected communities.

In Isa local government area, the governor presented N2 million and five bags of rice each to the 65 families who lost loved ones, while N250,000 and three bags of rice each were given to five persons who sustained injuries during the attacks.

Additionally, N20 million and 1,200 bags of assorted food items were donated to IDPs in the area. In total, N151.25 million and 1,240 bags of food items were distributed in Isa LGA.

In Sabon Birni local government area, the governor made similar donations, N2 million and five bags of rice each to 61 bereaved families, along with N20 million to IDPs and 1,200 bags of food items.In all, N122 million and 1,300 bags of food items were distributed in Sabon Birni LGA.

During the visit, Governor Aliyu revealed that the executive arm would soon forward a bill to the State House of Assembly seeking to prescribe stiff penalties for informants aiding bandits.

He warned that the “informants’ syndrome” was contributing significantly to kidnappings and insecurity in the state, cautioning those involved to desist before the law catches up with them.

Governor Aliyu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies. He noted that since assuming office, his government had distributed over 180 patrol vehicles to bolster security operations.

The governor further called on citizens to support the state’s anti-insecurity efforts by intensifying prayers for divine intervention.

In their separate remarks, the chairmen of Isa and Sabon Birni LGAs, Hon. Sharifu Abubakar Kamarawa and Hon. Ayuba Hashimu, expressed gratitude to the governor for his empathy and dedication to improving the lives of the people. They also prayed for continued guidance and success for his administration.
