Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has nominated the emirs of Bade and Machina for its National Meritorious Service Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to sports growth and development in their respective domains.
This is contained in a letter signed by SWAN’s president, Mr Isaiah Benjamin, and secretary general, Ambassador Ikenan Okonkwo, and made available to LEADERSHIP in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
According to the letter, the association cited the emirs’ exceptional service, dedication, and far-reaching contributions to sports development in Yobe State and beyond.
The letter also highlighted Mai Abubakar Umar Suleiman II, the emir of Bade’s contributions, including playing and sponsoring badminton tournaments at local, national, and international levels, winning numerous championships, providing financial assistance to the association and members, and travelling extensively as patron of Yobe SWAN Chapter.
The letter also commended the emir of Machina’s contributions, including promoting traditional sports, such as Langa, Kokuwa, and Dambe, at local, state, national, and international levels, showcasing commitment to horse riding and displays, hosting and participating in prestigious events.
The SWAN National Meritorious Service Award will be presented to the emirs during the association’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration (SWAN @60) in Abuja from October 29 to 31, 2025.
